Ambient 3 features an acoustic piano as source of sound scape generation. It articulates metamorphosis by making an impossible journey; one in which sound waves originate in physical materials, cross an oxygenic medium, and enter a silicon domain, where they morph and manifest themselves as immortal beings. It is a journey akin to the myth of Daedalus and Icarus. The EP also expresses the flow and mediation of musicianship from the human imprint on Century old piano keys, through to the digital rendering and curating of beautiful industrial sound effects units and software. These render the old piano into an exuberant sky dance of expression and imagery worthy of the mythical flight.

The piano pieces that form the basis of the EP were written and performed on a family heirloom of 100 years. The piano was almost half a semi-tone out of tune! Despite trying to have the piano professionally tuned, the tuner was unable to because of a crack in the soundboard. It was reconditioned in the early 80s but reached its limit and I let it go, with regret. However, I did carefully sample all the keys before parting with it and lives on in my sampler and digital keyboard renditions. So, Ambient 3 is my Strohmenger’s swan song - literally the last pieces I recorded on it. Thank you for the years my friend x
